Do People Get Demon Possessed Today?

There are many people today that do not believe in demons and most certainly do not believe that they possess people. There are even churches that deny the existence of demons even in Christianity. It is convenient to deny the existence of demons and their activity because then it is easy to remain ignorant of any and all spiritual activity in our daily lives.

People most certainly do get possessed today and I have personally come into contact with one such person several years ago. This activity is as real as we are and it is very active all around us every day. We just don’t see it so it is hard for us to realize it and understand it. The Bible has much to say about the subject.
What The Bible Says:

Matthew 25
41: Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

Mark 16
17: And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
Acts 5
12: And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon's porch.
13: And of the rest durst no man join himself to them: but the people magnified them.
14: And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.)
15: Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them.
16: There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one.

Acts 19
11: And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul:
12: So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.
13: Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth.
14: And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so.
15: And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?
16: And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.


We see from the scriptures above that hell was originally designed for satan and his angels. We then see that part of the great commission to all Christians was to cast out demons through the power of Jesus’ name. Then we see examples of that being done in the first church in the book of Acts. We can also see by the last scripture that this act is not to be taken lightly.

We are ambassadors of Christ and have the power of His name to do these things, but we also must remember that we must have a relationship with Him in order for that faith and power to be present. Those that just claim to know Him or only know “about” Him and then try to use His name to evoke supernatural power are doing so in vain. They also stand a good chance of something occurring to them as did to those in the scripture above.

I personally know a woman that allowed a similar situation to happen. She was toying around with demons and actually allowed them to come into her and possess her. She denied it but there was no other explanation because she was possessed for a time. As Christians we have all the power of Jesus’ Name and we have the authority and right to use it. We must be careful to not abuse or misuse it for wrong reasons, whatever they may be.

There is a book that has been out for about 15 years that is excellent and I believe should be recommended reading for all Christians. It is called “This Present Darkness” by Frank Perritti. It is an excellent book and gives a great visual experience to the reader of this spiritual activity that is transpiring all around us every day.

To answer the original question, yes, most certainly yes! People can and do get possessed today. I believe this is what happens to a lot of people we have witnessed over the years that are serial killers and do some of the monstrous things we have seen and heard about. I believe people like Charles Manson and Ted Bundy are prime examples of those that are possessed.
