Where Did The Bible Come From?
By Adam Bartlett

For anyone that has kept a diary or a family tree know the importance of keeping accurate and current information. These things are kept because they contain important information to you as individuals and families. God left us His Book because it contains important information for every human being. There were men that God instructed to keep the writings of everything He told them and the prophets. These men were called ‘scribes’ and they were extremely devout and committed to their work. In fact, they literally spent their whole lives dedicated to this work and nothing else. The copying of God’s Word was so important and revered by them that if they made just one mistake on copying it they were put to death.

In the beginning of time these writings were made on animal hides which were called “parchments.” They were also written on tables of stone and sometimes into wooden tablets. Because the animal hides would decay and become brittle there was a need to continually copy these writings and keep them from being lost. That is why God instituted a certain number of the Levite tribe to take this task as their lifelong duty to God. The Bible gives us a little insight as to how this was done and why.

What the Bible says:

Exodus 17
14 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Write this on a scroll as something to be remembered and make sure that Joshua hears it, because I will completely blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven."

Deuteronomy 31
24 After Moses finished writing in a book the words of this law from beginning to end,
25 he gave this command to the Levites who carried the ark of the covenant of the LORD:
26 "Take this Book of the Law and place it beside the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God. There it will remain as a witness against you.

John 14
25 "All this I have spoken while still with you.
26 But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

John 16
12 "I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear.
13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.
14 He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you.
15 All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will take from what is mine and make it known to you.

2 Timothy 3
16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,

2 Peter 1
19 And we have the word of the prophets made more certain, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.
20 Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation.
21 For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

It was important for God to leave a written word as a guide for us to follow. No other book on earth has been published more nor has it been around longer. It was so sacred to the Jewish people that they couldn’t even write or try to pronounce the name of God. The accuracy of the Bible was also further proven in 1947 when a Jewish shepherd boy found the noted Dead Sea Scrolls. Among those scrolls were thousands of documents from the New Testament and Old Testament. The most notable was the scroll of Isaiah, which when compared with the book that we currently have in our Bible matched perfectly. There were no errors or changes in the comparison. Archeology is proving things from the Bible everyday along with the prophecies that are coming to pass as well. NO book on earth has withstood the test of time and scrutiny as the Bible has.

I like to think of it this way when I hear people trying to cause doubt in the authenticity and accuracy of the Bible we have. If we believe that God created everything we know and see just by speaking it into existence, which He did. Then why is it so hard to believe that this same God cannot protect the writings of a single book to say what He wants and how He wants? To say that God cannot cause certain men to write a book containing what He wants them to say and also protect those writings for however long He chooses is hypocritical. I heard this phrase when I was a young Christian and it has stuck with me all these years.
