Answers to common questions and where to find answers for various topics in the Bible
Abortion
Abortion has made its way into the vocabulary or most everyone alive at one time or another. The move of society today is to persuade the average person that it is not only acceptable but a "right" to kill an unborn child. Unfortunately our own government has stepped in and given its approval on this atrocity as well. Regardless of what man may say, what does the Word of God say about this type of killing?
- Psalm 139:13-16-- For you formed my inward parts; You have covered me in my mother's womb.14. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are your works, and that my soul knows very well. 15. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was made in secret, and skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. 16. Your eyes saw my substance, yet being unformed. And in Your book they all were written, the days fashioned for me, when as yet there were none of them.
- Job 31:15-- Did not He who made me in the womb make them? Did not the same One fashion us in the womb?
- Psalm 22:9-10-- But You are He who took Me out of the womb; You made Me trust when I was on My mother's breasts. 10. I was cast upon you from birth. From My mother's womb you have been My God.
- Genesis 29:31-- When the LORD saw that Leah was unloved, He opened her womb; but Rachel was barren.
- Genesis 30:22-- Then God remembered Rachel, and God listened to her and opened her womb.
- Isaiah 44:2-- Thus says the LORD who made you and formed you from the womb, who will help you:
- Isaiah 44:24-- Thus saith the LORD, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb.
- Isaiah 49:1-- Listen, O coastlands, to Me, and take heed, you peoples from afar! The LORD has called Me from the womb; From the matrix of My mother He has made mention of My name.
- Isaiah 49:5-- And now the LORD says, who formed Me from the womb to be His Servant...
- Jeremiah 1:5-- Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you...
- Psalm 58:3-- The wicked are estranged from the womb; they go astray as soon as they are born, speaking lies.
- Luke 1:41-44-- And it happened, when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, that the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. 42. Then she spoke out with a loud voice and said, "Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! 43. "But why is this granted to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? 44. "For indeed, as soon as the voice of your greeting sounded in my ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy.
- Isaiah 49:15-- Can a woman forget her nursing child, and not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely they may forget, yet I will not forget you.
- Exodus 20:13-- You shall not murder.

Alcohol
Scriptures concerning drinking and to excess are;
Proverbs 20:1, 23:20-21 & 29-32, 31:4-6, Isaiah 5:11, Luke 21:34, Romans 13:13, Galatians 5:19-21
I realize that these scriptures deal with drinking usually to the excess and drunkenness.
You might ask about social drinking under control. I would say that a person has to judge personal convictions in this area. I would say that Ephesians 5:11 instructs us (Christians) to stay away from all appearance of evil. The concern would be that the act of social drinking would be considered a license to drink in all manors. It may also cause a weaker brother or sister to stumble at this especially if they had a previous problem in this area. Another question I would ask is, "is there not an alternative drink that would satisfy," is it necessary to drink alcohol? As I stated, it is really a matter of personal conviction that you have to get a clear conscience with God about yourself.
Baptism (Water)
Water Baptism is a Command from our Lord and it should be carried out as soon as possible after conversion. Every believer that is able should be baptized.
Matthew 3:13-17, 28:18-19, Acts 2:38, 41, 8:12, 36-38, 9:17-18, 10:47-48, 16:15, 30-33, 18:8, Romans 6:3-10, Ephesians 4:5
Baptism (Spirit)
Baptism in the Spirit is a separate event from water baptism. The Baptism in the Spirit endues the receiver with power from on high and generally gifts are imparted to the believer at this point.
Matthew 3:11, Mark 1:8, Luke 3:16, John 1:33
This event is displayed in the following Scriptures
Acts 1:5, 2:1-4, 38, 8:12-20, 9:17-18, 10:44-48, 11:15-16, 19:1-7
Bible
The Bible is the Inspired, Infallible Word of God and it is inseparable from the Christian Walk.
Deuteronomy 4:2, Psalm 119: 89, Isaiah 8:20, Galatians 1:11-12, 2Timothy 3:15-17, 2 Peter 1: 20-21, Revelation 22:18-19
Born Again (Salvation)
Salvation is through Christ alone and His work accomplished on the cross. The blood that was shed is the Atonement for our sins. His resurrection from the dead conquered death and demonstrated His power to give us Eternal Life. A person must realize their sinful condition and confess their sins and then by faith ask Christ to come into their heart and cleanse them.
John 1:12-13, 3:3-8, 14-18, 36, 6:40, 47-51, 10:9, 11:25-26, 14:6, Acts 4:12, Romans 10:9-10, 13, Ephesians 2:8-9, Titus 3:5-7, Hebrews 9:11-15, 22-28, 10:10-18, 1 John 1:7, 2:1-2, 4:9-10, 14-16

Children’s Responsibilities to Parents
Children do have responsibilities according to the Bible to obey their parents. It is the only command with the promise of length of life attached to it.
- Proverbs 6:20-23-- My son, keep your father's command, and do not forsake the law of your mother. 21. Bind them continually upon your heart; tie them around your neck. 22. When you roam, they will lead you; when you sleep, they will keep you; and when you awake, they will speak with you. 23. For the commandment is a lamp, and the law a light; reproofs of instruction are the way of life.
- Ephesians 6:1-3-- Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2. "Honor your father and mother," which is the first commandment with promise: 3. "that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth."
- Colossians 3:20-- Children, obey your parents in all things, for this is well pleasing to the Lord.
Cults
What are Cults
Cursing (Cussing)
The Bible has a lot to say about the speech we use and it is important to know that God does not think it is acceptable to speak that way.
Psalm 50:23, Proverbs 13:3, 18:7-8 & 21, Matthew 12:36-37, Luke 6:45, Ephesians 4:29-32, James 1:26, 3:6, 1 Peter 3:10

Divorce
Divorce has escalated in the past 40 years to the point of being as bad in the "Church" as much so as in the world. Divorce was never a thing that God wanted to happen but because of man’s consistent disobedience it was a concession made to alleviate the situation.
Matthew 5:31-32, 19:3-9, 1 Corinthians 7:1-16

Homosexuality
There is a strong drive in society today trying to sway the minds of people that homosexuality is not only hereditary but should be accepted as an alternative lifestyle. The homosexual movement is making powerful efforts to convince society that it is a normal happening. The media and Hollywood has jumped on the band wagon with them by using movies, TV shows, and tabloids to promote this perverseness. Regardless of what popular opinion has to say the Word of God is clear that it is an Abomination to God and a SIN.
- Romans 1:24-27-- Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, 25. who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. 26. For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. 27. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.
- Leviticus 18:22-- You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination.
- Leviticus 20:13-- If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them.
- 1 Corinthians 6:9-10-- Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10. Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.
- Deuteronomy 22:5-- A woman shall not wear anything that pertains to a man, nor shall a man put on a woman's garment, for all who do so are an abomination to the LORD your God.
- Jude 7-- ...as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.
- 1 Timothy 1:9-10-- ...knowing this: that the law is not made for a righteous person, but for the lawless and insubordinate, for the ungodly and for sinners, for the unholy and profane...10. for fornicators, for sodomites...
- Colossians 3:5-6-- Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. 6. Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience.
**The following are facts that the Homosexual movement does not want made public:**
Statistics You Should Know: It's Not Just Holding Hands
65% of all reported AIDS cases among males in the United States since 1981 have been men engaged in homosexual behavior. (Center for Disease Control HIV/AIDS Surveillance Report, Vol. 9, No. 2, May, 1998)
Homosexuals account for an overwhelmingly disproportionate number of cases of Gonorrhea, Hepatitis A, and Hepatitis B. (JAMA, 1986)
40% report they have had more than 40 partners; 24% report they have had more than 100 partners. (genre Magazine, 10/96)
52% report they have had sex in a public park; 46% report they have had sex in a public bathroom. (genre Magazine, 10/96)
32% report they had "tied each other up" during sex, a form of sadomasochism. (genre Magazine, 10/96)
Seven DEMANDS of the Homosexual Agenda:
Set forth and distributed at the "Gay Pride" March on Washington, D.C., April 25, 1993
- Demand the repeal of all sodomy laws and legalization of all forms of sexual expression. (Including pedophilia, changing age of consent laws to allow sex with youth.)
- Demand defense budget funds be diverted to cover AIDS patients' medical expenses, and taxpayer funding of sex change operations.
- Demand the legalization of same sex marriages, and legalization of adoption, custody, and foster care within these structures.
- Demand the full inclusion of lesbians, homosexual men, bisexuals and trans-genders in education and childcare.
- Demand that contraceptives and abortion services be made available to all persons, regardless of age.
- Demand taxpayer funding for artificial insemination of lesbians and bisexuals. Forbid religious based concerns regarding homosexuality from being expressed [as is already the case on radio & TV in Canada].
- Demand that organizations, such as Boy Scouts, be required to accept homosexual scoutmasters.
The Deceptive Portrayal
In their blueprint for homosexual activism, After the Ball, Marshall Kirk and Hunter Madsen teach that activists must "desensitize straights to gays and gayness, inundate them in a continuous flow of gay-related advertising." They advocate that the portrayal of homosexuals should be positive and non-threatening, "First you get your foot in the door, by being as similar as possible. Then, and only then—when your one little difference is finally accepted—can you start dragging in your other peculiarities, one by one."
Homosexual Deception
"In the early stages of any campaign to reach straight America, the masses should not be shocked and repelled by premature exposure to homosexual behavior itself. Instead, the imagery of sex should be downplayed and gay-rights should be reduced to an abstract social question as much as possible. First, let the camel get his nose inside the tent — and only later his unsightly derriere!"
Marshall Kirk, Erastes Pill,
The Overhauling of Straight America
Forced Acceptance
When a diversity consultant in 1994 asked whether some employees might be reluctant to undergo sensitivity training on homosexuality, openly homosexual U.S. Patents and Trademark Commissioner Bruce Lehmen replied: It's got to be forced down their throats. If they want to be bigots, they can go work for someone else's department.
Washington Times, 9/8/94
Free Speech – Outlawed!
Last year the California Legislature voted to allow citizens to use public, taxpayer money to sue Christian organizations (like radio stations or schools) that refer to homosexuality as a sin. (You know, like in the Bible?) This bill, AB257, actually passed in both Houses, only to be vetoed by outgoing Governor Pete Wilson. Another bill, AB310, would have put churches under state regulation, so they would be forced to hire homosexuals.
Homosexuality, Mental Illness, and the American Psychiatric Association
In 1973, the APA removed Homosexuality from its diagnostic category of mental illnesses. This action came not as a result of new research and findings, but was ultimately brought about by militant protest staged by activists at the APA annual convention. In other words, intimidation was a key motivation. In fact, only 16% of the entire APA membership actually voted in favor of the radical change. Homosexuality, Dr. James Mallory, Head of Psychiatric unit – Rapha Center, Atlanta, Ga.; Ronald Bayer, Homosexuality and American Psychiatry: The Politics of Diagnosis (N.Y.: Basic Books, 1981), 101-54; Wm. Dannemeyer, Shadow in the Land (San Fran.: Ignatius Press, 1989), 24-39.
Homosexuality is Not a Civil Right
The assertion that homosexuals are a true minority group is false. Minority status has been determined by the U.S. Supreme Court Based on three criteria:
- Economic Deprivation – NO! Those engaged in the homosexual lifestyle are among the most advantaged people in the U.S. On average, they have a higher per capita income than heterosexuals, and higher household incomes. (W.S. Journal, 2/10/89; N.Y. Times, 8/22/90).
- Political Powerlessness – NO! Homosexuals demonstrate great influential political power far beyond their actual numbers. The Human Rights Campaign Fund has annually donated millions of dollars to candidates, more than most other non-corporate PACs. (The Economist, 4/24/93) Media news and entertainment coverage is overwhelmingly favorable. (Turn your TV on!)
- Immutable Characteristics – NO! Minority groups share unchangeable, benign, non-behavioral traits such as race, ethnicity, disability or national origin. Homosexuals are the only group to claim minority status based on behavior!
Interracial Marriage
The Bible does not use the word ‘race’ in reference to skin color. In Genesis 10:5, 20, and 31 the people are divided according to tongues, families, nations, and lands. In Revelation 7:9 the redeemed of God are said to have come from "all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues." The Bible does not separate men according to the color of their skin. In fact Acts 17:26 indicates that we originated from "one blood" to fill the whole earth. The only scriptures that those use to stand against interracial marriage are scriptures that speak of nationalities and beliefs, not color of skin. The Bible clearly says that God is not a respecter of persons, so what gives us the right to be?
Morality in Government and Leadership
Exodus 18:21-- "Moreover you shall select from all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them to be rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.
Leviticus 19:15-- "You shall do no injustice in judgment. You shall not be partial to the poor, nor honor the person of the mighty. But in righteousness you shall judge your neighbor."
Jeremiah 18:5-10-- Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying: 6. "O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter?" says the LORD. "Look, as the clay is in the potter's hand, so are you in My hand, O house of Israel! 7. The instant I speak concerning a nation and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, to pull down, and to destroy it, 8. if that nation against whom I have spoken turns from its evil, I will relent of the disaster that I thought to bring upon it. 9. And the instant I speak concerning a nation and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it, 10. if it does evil in My sight so that it does not obey My voice, then I will relent concerning the good with which I said I would benefit it.
Micah 6:8-- He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?
Psalm 34:15-16-- The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their cry. 16. The face of the LORD is against those who do evil, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.
Psalm 2:1-12-- Why do the nations rage, and the people plot a vain thing? 2. The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD and against His anointed, saying, 3. "Let us break their bonds in pieces and cast away their cords from us." 4. He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; The Lord shall hold them in derision. 5. Then He shall speak to them in His wrath, and distress them in His deep displeasure: 6. "Yet I have set My King On My holy hill of Zion." 7. "I will declare the decree: the LORD has said to Me, `You are My Son, today I have begotten You. 8. Ask of Me, and I will give You the nations for Your inheritance, and the ends of the earth for Your possession. 9. You shall break them with a rod of iron; You shall dash them to pieces like a potter's vessel.'" 10. Now therefore, be wise, O kings; be instructed, you judges of the earth. 11. Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. 12. Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, And you perish in the way, when His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him.
Proverbs 14:34-- Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.
Proverbs 29:2,4,14-- When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; but when a wicked man rules, the people groan. 4. The king establishes the land by justice, but he who receives bribes overthrows it. 14. The king who judges the poor with truth, His throne will be established forever.
Proverbs 31:4-5-- It is not for kings, O Lemuel, It is not for kings to drink wine, Nor for princes intoxicating drink; 5. Lest they drink and forget the law, And pervert the justice of all the afflicted.
Romans 13:1-4-- Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. 2. Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves. 3. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same. 4. For he is God's minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is God's minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil.
Parental Responsibilities to their Children
Parents have a great responsibility to bring up their children in the knowledge and admonition of the Lord. Probably the best instructions for parents regarding these responsibilities are in the book of Deuteronomy chapter 6 verses 4-9. These verses describe how that the Law of the Lord should be written upon the doorposts of the house and on the gatepost. It was to be spoken of all of our waking hours and to be on our minds constantly. It is so important to have this atmosphere with our children to show them the importance of God in our lives.
- Proverbs 13:24-- He who spares his rod hates his son, but he who loves him disciplines him promptly.
- Proverbs 19:18-- Chasten your son while there is hope, and do not set your heart on his destruction.
- Proverbs 22:6-- Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.
- Ephesians 6: 4-- And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.
- Colossians 3: 21-- Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged.
Pornography
Pornography is a poison used by satan to destroy one’s mind. Once pornography is viewed it is etched in the mind and only the power of the Holy Spirit can remove it. It is very dangerous and it destroys one’s concept of true and pure love as God intended.
- Ephesians 5:3-5-- But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints; 4. neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks. 5. For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.
- Matthew 5:27-28-- "You have heard that it was said to those of old, `You shall not commit adultery.' 28. "But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart."
- Mark 7:20-23-- And He said, "What comes out of a man, that defiles a man. 21. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, 22. thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, licentiousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. 23. All these evil things come from within and defile a man."
Religious Liberty
Matthew 28:18-20-- Then Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20. teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen.
Luke 24:46-47-- Then He said to them, "Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, 47. and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem."
Acts 1:7-8-- And He said to them, "It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority. 8. But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."
Acts 4:15-20-- But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves, 16. saying, "What shall we do to these men? For, indeed, that a notable miracle has been done through them is evident to all who dwell in Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it. 17. "But so that it spreads no further among the people, let us severely threaten them, that from now on they speak to no man in this name." 18. And they called them and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus. 19. But Peter and John answered and said to them, "Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you more than to God, you judge. 20. For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard."
Acts 17:19-23-- And they took him and brought him to the Areopagus, saying, "May we know what this new doctrine is of which you speak? 20. For you are bringing some strange things to our ears. Therefore we want to know what these things mean." 21. For all the Athenians and the foreigners who were there spent their time in nothing else but either to tell or to hear some new thing. 22. Then Paul stood in the midst of the Areopagus and said, "Men of Athens, I perceive that in all things you are very religious; 23. "for as I was passing through and considering the objects of your worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Therefore, the One whom you worship without knowing, Him I proclaim to you."
Acts 19:8-10-- And he went into the synagogue and spoke boldly for three months, reasoning and persuading concerning the things of the kingdom of God. 9. But when some were hardened and did not believe, but spoke evil of the Way before the multitude, he departed from them and withdrew the disciples, reasoning daily in the school of Tyrannus. 10. And this continued for two years, so that all who dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks.
Secular Humanism
Psalm 14:1-- The fool has said in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none who does good.
Isaiah 14:13-15-- For you have said in your heart: `I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation on the farthest sides of the north; 14. I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.' 15. Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol, to the lowest depths of the Pit.
Jeremiah 18:11-12-- "Now therefore, speak to the men of Judah and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, `Thus says the LORD: "Behold, I am fashioning a disaster and devising a plan against you. Return now every one from his evil way, and make your ways and your doings good."'" 12. And they said, "That is hopeless! So we will walk according to our own plans, and we will every one do the imagination of his evil heart."
Romans 1:28-30 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; 29. being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, 30. backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents.
Suicide
Suicide is not specifically mentioned in the Bible as such, although there are many scriptures that deal with the subject. Mainly the 6th commandment in Exodus 20:13, "Thou shalt not kill." Suicide is self-murder and is thought to be deliberate and premeditated; therefore it is a sin against this commandment. Another aspect of this act is that it takes away one’s dependence on God and presumes to become the Judge and Jury on your life. God is in control of all things and promised to not let more be put on us than we can handle, but make a way of escape for it (1 Corinthians 10:13). Notice that God will make a way to escape the situation, but you must put your faith in Him.
Voluntary Prayer in School
Daniel 6:6-10-- So these governors and satraps thronged before the king, and said thus to him: "King Darius, live forever! 7. All the governors of the kingdom, the administrators and satraps, the counselors and advisors, have consulted together to establish a royal statute and to make a firm decree, that whoever petitions any god or man for thirty days, except you, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions. 8. Now, O king, establish the decree and sign the writing, so that it cannot be changed, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which does not alter." 9. Therefore King Darius signed the written decree. 10. Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went home. And in his upper room, with his windows open toward Jerusalem, he knelt down on his knees three times that day, and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as was his custom since early days.
Luke 18:1-- Then He spoke a parable to them that men always ought to pray and not lose heart.
Acts 4:18-20-- And they called them and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus. 19 But Peter and John answered and said to them, "Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you more than to God, you judge. 20 For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard."
Romans 12:12 ...rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer.
