Crying to God

"Unto thee will I cry, O Lord my rock, be not silent to me: lest, if thou be silent to me, I become like them that go down into the pit" (Psalm 28:1)

A cry is a natural expression of sorrow and a utterance when all other expressions fail to suffice. To be effective though, the cry must be directed to the Lord. David knew the importance of directing his cries to the one that could provide the help and comfort he needed. To many times God's own children look to other Christians for the answers when they need to direct their pleas to God first.

David also knew what it was like to not hear from God when he made a plea, "be not silent to me". What a terrible feeling when we need or desire God's direction, comfort, or guidance and hear no reply to our pleas. There are some that regularly go through the motions of prayer and are content without getting answers to their prayers. If we realize that prayer is not only communication for times of need only, but for developing closeness that is needed daily, how much better we would be equipped to handle crises.

David realized that if you only go through the motions of prayer, or any part of a relationship with God that eventually it will reveal it's hollowness to you, "if thou be silent to me, I become like them that go down into the pit". If you are only going through the motions, you are playing games with your eternity. I think it is best to heed the advice of James, "Be ye doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves." What would you be "deceiving" yourself of? Being a child of God !! If you are going through the motions only, there is no substance to your walk and therefore your cries are not heard by God.

My desire is that God will hear my cries and that I can hear His responses.
