Finding God and your Call

Exodus 3
1: Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb.
2: And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.
3: And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt.
4: And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I.

Moses had apparently heard the legend of the bush that burned yet was not consumed. Moses was at a point in his life where the spirit was drawing him. He answered the call and sought out God. When you seek God out of sincerity God will make Himself known to you. It is interesting that this place was on the backside of the desert and the mountain (Horeb) means desolate. Even if you feel you have no one in the world and you are all alone in desolation that is the place you will find God. It also shows us that you can go nowhere without the presence of God being just a whisper away as David knew and proclaimed in Psalm 18. It may take some of us to be led into the wilderness or back side of the desert before God gets our full attention.

5: And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground.
6: Moreover he said, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God.

Once God does make Himself known to you, you will suddenly be aware of His awesome Holiness and at the same time your lowly position. Once we meet the presence of God we are transformed and see sin as the darkness it really is (Romans 7:13). If we keep it our heart's desire to seek the presence of God, just as Moses, we will eventually make it to the Promised Land. Keep in mind that Moses also spent forty years in the wilderness after meeting the presence of God. Also keep in mind that it was during this wilderness experience that Moses seen God closer than anyone else in the Bible with maybe the exception of John.

7: And the LORD said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows;

God does know what you are going through and He does hear your cries. Even while you are still crying out He is preparing the deliverer to come to you.

8: And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey; unto the place of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites.
9: Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel is come unto me: and I have also seen the oppression wherewith the Egyptians oppress them.
10: Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt.

Once you meet the presence of God and He sees the sincere hunger in your heart He may call you to a special service. It may be a job seemingly insurmountable to you but He wants you to rely and trust in Him to accomplish it through you. It may not be big at all in your eyes but whatever the task is that He calls you to just remember to allow Him to be the one that performs it.

11: And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?
12: And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain.

He gives us the assurance that He will always be with us when he sends us. It is not God that wants you to feel overwhelmed and alone but the enemy. God is never farther than a sincere heart's cry away.
