INSIGHTS
There are a few things that are important to remember about Jehovah’s Witnesses. As mentioned, they spend a great deal of time in study and are trained to respond with pre-arranged answers. One book they depend on in their door to door ministry is called "Reasoning From The Scriptures." This book contains all major topics of their belief and also contains questions for them to use and responses for certain answers. They will want to use this and other Watchtower materials in discussions. However, you cannot use any materials such as a book by a former Jehovah’s Witness or any other Christian books like this one. They will not accept anything from these materials and will probably discontinue talking to you if you use materials such as these. They believe the King James Version of the Bible is inaccurate and full of mistakes, therefore, I find it best to work out of the New World Translation when dealing with them.
The following lists some of their beliefs, although these topics will not be discussed in detail in this material. That is not the purpose of this material, however some excellent books are available which are very detailed on these issues, which will be listed later.
Bible – Believe the King James Version is inaccurate because it omits the proper name "Jehovah," and claims the New World Translation is the most accurate translation that exist.
Blood – Do not believe in blood transfusions even if death is eminent, based on Leviticus. 17:14. This belief has been changed back and forth several times.
Cross – Jesus did not die on a cross but an upright stake, yet early Watchtower literature had cross on it’s cover.
Death/Hell – Do not believe in Hell, once you die there is nothing else; no eternal punishment or torment.
Heaven – Only 144,000 will actually get to go to heaven, the rest (Jehovah’s Witnesses) will remain on a paradise earth to rule over all non-Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Holidays/Birthdays – Not observed because thought to be evil, yet early Watchtower literature approved.
Holy Spirit – God’s active force; not a personal attribute of GOD.
Jesus/GOD – There is only one true GOD "Jehovah", Jesus was created by GOD as his first creation. Then he created everything else. Jesus was Michael the Archangel before he came to earth, then became man (Jesus), then ascended as Michael again.
Return of Christ – Happened in 1914; Jesus returned invisibly in 1914 and has been here since then. There was also several dates of this supposed return that were changed.
Salvation – Only Jehovah’s Witnesses are truly saved, if you don’t belong to the organization you are lost. A works based salvation, they believe even Jesus was born again.
The doctrine has changed so much over the years and there are so many false prophecies that have been made that it is a good idea to undermine the legitimacy of these things. There are some excellent books out there that provide ample sources of listings of their doctrines and false prophecies. Index To Watchtower Errors by David Reed is an excellent book for this. It is always best to stay with the Word of God and to prove their errors through the Word. That is why I have written this book on how to do just that, by using their own Bible to contradict their beliefs. I pray that this helps you to at least confront a Jehovah's Witness the next time they come to your door instead of hiding and not answering and talking to them. You can never expose their error and shed the "Light" to them if you never talk to them. This was designed to give you a quick reference to do just that. It is not intended to be an in-depth study of their beliefs, there are many great books out there that already do that.
