We have just seen that God healed the bitter waters for His people. Now the people are murmuring again because there is no food for them in this wilderness. They even go as far as to proclaim a desire to be back in captivity and what a slap in the face of God considering what they have witnessed thus far.
It is typical of us and instilled by modern teaching and Hollywood to never expect any wilderness on the way to the Promised Land. The enemy would have you to expect that you can go from Egypt to the Promised Land with no wilderness or bumps in the road.
Many modern teachings like "Name it - Claim it" doctrines have destroyed the proper faith in God. Teachers today tell us that we have a right to this and that we should demand it as our rightful inheritance. The only thing that we all deserve is to spend an eternity on hell but God who is rich in His Mercy has given us a way to restore our relationship with Him. It is not one of demanding, but one of submission to Him and His will for our life.
God's desire is that we allow Him to lead us each step of the way by placing our faith in Him totally which will require a relationship with Him as expressed in Vs.5. Notice He only supplied one day at a time! We have to learn to be dependent upon God's provisions and not murmur when we cannot see the next day's supply.
When we first start our journey with God we must learn the necessity of daily dependence and complete obedience. Once we mature through our wilderness journeys then we can be trusted with the riches of the Promised Land. Once we prove our obedience in the Promised Land, God will take us to the new found riches of maturity.
We are then entrusted to guide others through their wilderness journeys as Moses did. We can then become spiritual leaders and be entrusted with that special gift that awaits us all. We must get past the murmuring stage in our spiritual journey and move on to the place that we camp more frequently in the presence.
