Satisfied
Webster's Dictionary defines 'Satisfied' as; fulfilled, pleased, and content. I thought it might be interesting to see how this word applies to our lives in a 'spiritual' manner.
I have been on a spiritual journey for about 10 years now and on this journey I have learned some things. Unfortunately most things I learned the hard way, but either way it was a lesson learned. It is my total belief that many, if not most Christians are "Satisfied" with their walk today, which to me is frightening. I would like to share the areas that I have through talking to many Christians found to be this way.
Christians tend to be "Satisfied":
1. Reading the Bible whenever in church but not otherwise.
2. Watching TV and movies that they would not, if Jesus was sitting next to them.
3. Talking like the world and even cursing while with non-Christian friends.
4. Praying occasionally before meals when you think about it but not otherwise throughout the day.
5. Spending more time with TV, Movies, Phone, Computer, etc. than with God.
6. Giving God the end of your day instead of the start.
7. Only talking to God when a crisis or want arises.
8. Singing to God but not understanding or meaning it.
9. Believing that going to church is the extent of our Christian 'duty'.
10. Thinking that being a 'good' person is worth something in God's eyes.
I am convinced beyond doubt that we do not seek God the way we should. A lot of the problem is that our churches are not teaching and training it's people how to do these things. The era of acceptance and compromise is upon us and we have to decide within ourselves what our limits are. God made it very clear that there are two roads, one is Narrow and there are only going to be a few that find it. The other is Broad and many will be on that road. The Broad road is the one that is filled with "Satisfied" people. The Narrow road is the one that is tougher to travel because it leaves little room to wander. It is the one that forces you to keep your eye on a focal point so that you do not fall off of the edge. That focal point is Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. The Broad road has no boundaries and allows for most anything. It is important to note here that the destination on the Broad road is "Hell." The first of the Ten Commandments is to "Have no other gods" and when we spend more time in front of the TV than in prayer and the Bible then that has become our 'god'. I say these things as encouragement to stay the course and I need this as much as anyone. What would you say if you stood before God today and He asked you how many you brought with you? Have we been Satisfied thinking that others will see by our example and be won to Christ? Do we have a hunger to Know God and not just know 'about' Him? If you were driving down the street and passed a burning house and heard voices screaming for help would you not stop and do whatever you could to save those inside? Can you not see that there are many houses burning around you with those you work with? Jesus came with one purpose and that was to "seek and save those that were lost", so can we confidently say that is our mission also? I live in the country and driving down gravel roads alot can cause your headlights to become dim because of the dust buildup on them. Sometimes we need to make sure our lights are burning without any hindrances. Please take this as the encouragement it is intended to be.
