The Desensitizing of Christians

It is clearly obvious that there is a desensitizing that is taking place in the world today in nearly every area of society. It is not restricted to just one area of thinking but covers all areas of morality that encompass this life as we know it. Violence is one area that the evidence is overwhelming for any that would take the time to notice. The enemy is very good at this tactic and uses it to his full advantage and much to the surprise of many Christians. The average child (Christian included) sees over 70,000 murders on Television by the time they graduate high school. Take that into consideration along with the fact that over 1,000 babies are aborted a day in this country alone and you can start seeing the point. This is the basic component of desensitizing, to flood the environment so that it becomes common and loses it's shock value. If it happens enough then the outrage and disapproval seem to fade away in the shadows. Then you have activist groups that push their agendas and have the media to support them as well as government. Is it any wonder that we have seen the rise in violence in our youth in this country. There is an aspect of this issue that we have to face now before there is no time left. What is the role of the Christian in society? Are we supposed to be vocal on issues? Should we take stands? The desensitizing effort is to make Christians think that we must take a back seat quietly and let the politicians and the rest of the world hash this out. There have been times that people have made wrong decisions and killed abortionists, or broken the law to take a stand. Of course the media will jump on these opportunities to make the accusation that Christians are bigots and hate mongers, but do we expect less. There are right ways to voice opposition and there are ways to take stands against the evils in the world without breaking the law or causing shame to the name of Christ. We are commanded in Ephesians 5:11 to not only steer clear of evil but we are told that we are to "Expose" it. It would be hard to expose evil if we sit silently back and let the world go it's own way. Unfortunately in the last 30 years the 'Church' has sit back and waited for someone to take the torch. They have become so afraid of offending someone that they have retreated to the pew never to be heard again. What makes the situation even worse is the fact that pastors and spiritual leaders have turned the focus to areas that do not encourage taking the stands needed today. Spiritual leaders are guilty of arming Christians with toy guns and plastic shields that will not withstand the much too real arsenal of the enemy. Therefore the 'church' has become desensitized by forces with-in and with-out. I believe that, as always there is always a Remnant of Christians out there that have not been affected by the tactics of the enemy and they are aware of what is happening. Not only are they aware but they do all they can to alert those that are affected and encourage them to take their place back. When was the last time that we shed a tear over the 1,000 babies a day that are aborted? When was the last time we shed a tear over a lost member in our family? Friend? Or any lost person? I am convinced that until we change our disciplines that we cannot expect to see a change in society or ourselves. How many Christians today spend more time in front of the TV, than in the WORD? How many Christians today spend more time eating than praying? How many Christians never open their Bibles except on Sundays? This is the desensitizing that I am talking about concerning Christians. Jesus said that the world should hate us and I am inclined to believe that the reason is not because we give them obnoxious reasons but from conviction. I believe it would be because they see such a difference in our lives that it convicts them of the way they live. Would that be the case with you today? In the world today there is a need more than ever before to live Godly lives and bring about that conviction in the lost. If you have been a victim of desensitization there is hope. Pray today that God will renew the fire in you that has been smothered by the world and ask Him to make you the Light-bearing torch that we need to be in this dark world.

Sincerely, In Christ Adam
