The Friend Of God

Genesis 18: 17-33

Vs. 17 - The Lord did not hide from Abraham the plans He had and according to John 15: 15-16 He was considered a friend. Some also see this as a picture of God revealing His plans to the church concerning the events of the tribulation (1 Thessalonians 5: 4-5). That God has revealed to us the signs and we should be interceding for those of that time just as Abraham did. When we the last time you took time in prayer for the lost? How many times have we truly interceded as Abraham does in this situation for the lost that we know? This is truly an age that is in dire need of those that will intercede for the lost and for the Word to go out in power.

Vs. 19 - "For I know him," - God does know each of us and our desire and prayer should be that God would have this same report of us. Could God say of you that He knows you will lead your household in the ways of righteousness? This should be the intent of every Born-again child's heart, to have God talk to you as a friend and be able to trust by your actions that you will do His bidding. From what God has already seen of your life and witness, would He find you as a friend or foe?

Vs. 23 - Notice that before Abraham starts his great intercession for Sodom and Gomorrah he "Drew Near." You must come near, before the throne of grace to obtain mercy - Hebrews 4:16. You must be "Known" in order to approach the throne. God is still looking for intercessors - Ezekiel 22: 29-31. How well are you known by God? Have you ever interceded for anyone before? Could God consider you a 'friend.'
