Whom God Sends He Equips

Exodus 4: 1-13

Vs. 1 - Moses had just been commanded in Chapter 3 to go back to Egypt. The place where he grew up and became a ruler. Keep in mind it was also the place that he learned to believe in and worship hundreds of false gods and goddesses.

Moses had spent close to 40 years with Jethro who was a priest and certainly expounded to Moses the history of the Hebrew people and their God. It was Moses' hunger to see this God that brought him to the burning bush. Here in the presence of the true God all attachments to any of the Egyptian gods were burned away and he received his call.

Notice: his call came after he got in the presence of God. Hunger first - then pursuit - then call.

Moses' first excuse was that the people would not believe him. Just as with Jonah and the rest of the prophets, God simply wants you to take His message, He will do the rest. We focus on our inadequacies because we can only think of what man will do, God looks at our hunger and desire and knows that He can provide all that is needed.

Vs. 2-9 - God gives Moses three signs to use to convince the people. We must keep in mind that these people have been slaves for 430 years and slaves to pagans that had many gods. The signs were to show them the power of God and increase their faith in His power to deliver them.

Vs. 10-13 - Moses comes up with another excuse that he does not speak well. God reminds him that He is the one who made him and his mouth. It is easy to be quick to condemn Moses for his excuses but we must remember the situation. How would you have handled this situation? How many times have we made excuses to what we know God wants us to do? What excuses do we use for not: Spending more time in Prayer? Spending more time in the Word? Spending more time witnessing to the lost?

How seriously do we seek after the presence of God? Are we pursuing the presence or are we satisfied where we are? Whom God calls He will equip but we must get in the place to get the call.

HUNGER + PURSUIT = CALL
