Wrestling with God

Genesis 32: 24-32

Vs. 24 - First you have to get alone with God - when was the last time you spent time alone with God? Wrestling with God requires more than the typical prayers that we commonly offer. You have to have a burning desire, an urgency, a heart's plead to get an answer and you cannot be satisfied with anything less. You will not get off your knees until you get your answer and some peace. Until you are tormented with your spiritual state then you cannot understand this. Until you realize that there is more to this spiritual walk than going through the motions as you have been you will not understand. Until you realize that God must be first in all areas of your life and holding on to the things of the world are only a hindrance to this relationship you will not understand. Until you realize that the relationship you have will only go as deep as you are willing to commit to then you will not understand. Until you get to the point where the only way to go is up then you will not understand. Until you are willing to admit that you have a pride problem then you will not understand.

Jacob wrestled until morning - how long do you spend in prayer to get an answer?

Vs. 25 - Because of this great event all of Israel would remember it (see vs. 32). It would also serve as a reminder to Jacob the rest of his life of what prevailing prayer is all about. A reminder to call on God every time he limped around and pain went through his hip. Oh, that we all might experience a physical ailment from God as a result of our relentless praying and wrestling with God.

Vs. 26 - Have you ever prayed with this kind of boldness, desire, and persistence?

Vs. 28 - Look at the honor God bestows on this type of praying! What should we be wrestling with God for today? A family member that needs to be saved? Self purity? Power in our lives?
