Although the above story may be humorous, how many people are there in the world are trying to reach the heavens, namely heaven itself by their own efforts? You might think the above man was silly trying to elevate himself to the sky with weather balloons and a lawn chair, but even more serious are all the peoples of the world thinking good works or some other means using their own goodness, ability or efforts will gain them heaven.

The bible says there is only one way to heaven, ant it is through the shed blood of Jesus Christ on the cross. You see, it was God Himself that loved you enough to come to this earth and live and then die for your sins, taking your punishment on the cross.

The bible says that the "Wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord" -Romans 6:23. All have sinned and come short of the Glory of God. That means both you and me, and everybody!

If you would but believe that God loved you so much that He came to this earth in the form of Jesus Christ, and died and paid the price for your sin, you can be saved for all eternity. We are saved by faith, and this faith must be in Jesus and Him alone. The good news about the death of Jesus on the cross is that death could not hold Him! Three days later He rose again, He triumphed over the grave! It is because of this that you can talk to Him in prayer, and He will hear and answer! The bible says that "Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord (Jesus) shall be saved."

Are you trying to reach heaven by your own efforts? If you are, you are no smarter than the man in the above story from California trying to fly in a lawn chair and balloons. Please, for your own sake, believe the Gospel, call upon the name of Jesus, and be saved today!
