Lesson #14
Question: Where did the Bible come from?
Opening Discussion:
Q - Do any of you keep a diary? Why?
Q - How many of you have a family tree that has been kept in your family? Why?
These things are kept because they contain important information to you as individuals and families. God left us His Book because it contains important information for every human being.
What the Bible says:
Exodus 17
14 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Write this on a scroll as
something to be remembered and make sure that Joshua hears it, because I will completely blot out the memory of Amalek from
under heaven."
Deuteronomy 31
24 After Moses finished writing in a book the words of this law
from beginning to end,
25 he gave this command to the Levites who carried the ark of the covenant of the LORD:
26 "Take this Book of the Law and place it beside the ark of the
covenant of the LORD your God. There it will remain as a witness
against you.
John 14
25 "All this I have spoken while still with you.
26 But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send
in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of
everything I have said to you.
John 16
12 "I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear.
13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you
into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only
what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.
14 He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and
making it known to you.
15 All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the
Spirit will take from what is mine and make it known to you.
2 Timothy 3
16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching,
rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,
2 Peter 1
19 And we have the word of the prophets made more certain, and
you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in
your hearts.
20 Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture
came about by the prophet's own interpretation.
21 For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men
spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
Q - Do these scriptures help you to understand how the Bible came about and why?
It was important for God to leave a written word as a guide for
us to follow. No other book on earth has been published more nor has it been around longer. There was a sect of the Jewish
spiritual leaders that kept close contact with the writings, they
were the Scribes. Their job was to reproduce the writings as
they became worn, and they could not even get one dot out of
place. It was gone over more maliciously than any other
writing. It was so sacred to the Jewish people that they
couldn't even write or try to pronounce the name of God. The
accuracy of the Bible was also further proven in 1947 when a
Jewish shepherd boy found the noted Dead Sea Scrolls. Among
those scrolls were thousands of documents from the New Testament and Old Testament. The most notable was the scroll of Isaiah, which when compared with the book that we currently have in our Bible matched perfectly. There were no errors or changes in the comparison. Archeology is proving things from the Bible everyday along with the prophecies that are coming to pass as well. NO book on earth has withstood the test of time and scrutiny as the Bible has.
