Plain Talk for Teens
Lesson #16
Question: How can I know if I am going to go to heaven?
Opening Discussion:
Q - When you breathe do you see the air that you are breathing?
Q - Do you believe it is there?
Faith = Hebrews 11
1 Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what
we do not see.
Q - If you were to stop eating what would happen? (You would
eventually die)
We eat because we believe in a principle and we pattern our life
to accommodate that principle.
What the Bible says
John 3
3 In reply Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see
the kingdom of God unless he is born again. "
4 "How can a man be born when he is old?" Nicodemus asked.
"Surely he cannot enter a second time into his mother's womb to
be born!"
5 Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the
kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit.
John 3
16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the
world, but to save the world through him.
18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.
John 3
36 Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever
rejects the Son will not see life, for God's wrath remains on
him."
Matthew 7
21 "Not everyone who says to me, `Lord, Lord,' will enter the
kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.
22 Many will say to me on that day, `Lord, Lord, did we not
prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and
perform many miracles?'
23 Then I will tell them plainly, `I never knew you. Away from
me, you evildoers!'
24 "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts
them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the
rock.
Matthew 10
32 "Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven.
33 But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven.
John 15
1 "I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener.
2 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every
branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even
more fruitful.
3 You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you.
4 Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear
fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear
fruit unless you remain in me.
5 "I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me
and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do
nothing.
6 If anyone does not remain in me, he is like a branch that is
thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned.
7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you.
8 This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing
yourselves to be my disciples.
James 1
22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves.
Do what it says.
By faith we believe and accept what Jesus done for us by inviting Him into our hearts to rule our lives. Then we act on our belief and make the changes in our life according to what His word says. There are many that 'believe' but do not live according to that belief. Jesus said that if we do what He asks us to do then we are His disciples. This doesn't mean we will be perfect, you will still make mistakes and sin. The difference is that with Christ in your heart you do not want to sin and you do your best to avoid sin. When we do sin, we ask for forgiveness and try not to do it again by asking for His strength in that area. Only God will give us the power to do this.
