Lesson #18

Question: What about Abortion?

Opening Discussion:

Do you think any baby is conceived by chance?
Do you think that God knows about each pregnancy?
If God knows then wouldn't God also be in control of whether that pregnancy takes place or not?

What the Bible says:
" Psalm 139:13-16-- For you formed my inward parts; You have covered me in my mother's womb.14 I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are your works, and that my soul knows very well. 15 My frame was not hidden from You, when I was made in secret, and skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. 16 Your eyes saw my substance, yet being unformed. And in Your book they all were written, the days fashioned for me, when as yet there were none of them.

" Job 31:15-- Did not He who made me in the womb make them? Did not the same One fashion us in the womb?

" Psalm 22:9-10-- But You are He who took Me out of the womb; You made Me trust when I was on My mother's breasts. 10 I was cast upon You from birth. From My mother's womb You have been My God.

" Genesis 29:31-- When the LORD saw that Leah was unloved, He opened her womb; but Rachel was barren.

" Genesis 30:22-- Then God remembered Rachel, and God listened to her and opened her womb.

" Isaiah 44:2-- Thus says the LORD who made you and formed you from the womb, who will help you:

" Isaiah 44:24-- Thus saith the LORD, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb.

" Isaiah 49:1-- Listen, O coastlands, to Me, and take heed, you peoples from afar! The LORD has called Me from the womb; From the matrix of My mother He has made mention of My name.

" Isaiah 49:5-- And now the LORD says, Who formed Me from the womb to be His Servant...

" Jeremiah 1:5-- Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you...

" Psalm 58:3-- The wicked are estranged from the womb; they go astray as soon as they are born, speaking lies.

" Luke 1:41-44-- And it happened, when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, that the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. 42 Then she spoke out with a loud voice and said, "Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! 43 "But why is this granted to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? 44 "For indeed, as soon as the voice of your greeting sounded in my ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy.

" Isaiah 49:15-- Can a woman forget her nursing child, and not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely they may forget, yet I will not forget you.

" Exodus 20:13-- You shall not murder.

NOTE:
If you do not have time to use all scriptures then highlight the ones you wish to use.

Consider the following line of thinking:
What does God Say About Abortion?
How does God refer to the Unborn?

Matthew 1:18
"…she was found with CHILD (not fetus) of the Holy Ghost."

Luke 1: 41
"…the BABE (not a CHOICE) leaped in her womb."

Jeremiah 1: 5
"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before your were born I set you apart as a prophet to the nations."

Exodus 20: 13
"Thou shalt not MURDER."
God does care about every unborn child and as the verse in Jeremiah indicates God also knows every child before it is born. Regardless of the circumstances of the pregnancy, God does know each one. God also has a plan for each of those babies. Unfortunately over 1 million of them a day will never get to fulfill God's plan for their life, because they will be MURDERED. God loves each of these mothers just the same and wants them to be restored also. God will never condone murder though and that sin will have to be repented of. There is a Spiritual Birth that has to take place before anyone on this earth can see God.

John 3: 3&5
"…No one can see the Kingdom of God unless he is born again. …No one can enter the Kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit."

Just as we are born in the Physical (water), we also must be born in the Spiritual. Ask Jesus to come into your heart today and give Him complete control. Having an abortion will not keep you out of heaven, but refusing to repent of it and accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior will.

WOULD YOU CONSIDER ABORTION IF ?

Would you consider abortion in the following 4 situations?

Case #1. There's a preacher and wife who are very, very, poor. They already have 14 kids. Now she finds out she's pregnant with the 15th. They're living in tremendous poverty. Considering their poverty and the excessive world population, would you consider recommending she get an abortion?

Case # 2. The father is sick with sniffles, the mother has TB. They have had 4 children. 1st is blind, 2nd died, 3rd is deaf and 4th has TB. She finds she's pregnant again. Given the extreme situation, would you consider recommending abortion?

Case # 3. A white man raped a 13 year old black girl and she became pregnant. If you were her parents, would you consider recommending abortion?

Case # 4. A teenage girl is pregnant. She's not married. Her fiancé is not the father of the baby, and he's very upset. Would you consider recommending abortion?

If you said yes. . . .

In Case # 1, you have just killed John Wesley. One of the great evangelists in the 19th century.

In Case # 2, you have killed Beethoven.

In Case #3, you have killed Ethel Waters, the great black gospel singer.

In Case #4, you have just murdered Jesus.

Using these illustrations it is easy to see how that God is in control of every situation and by choosing abortion you may be preventing a great leader from being born.

Consider the following facts:
Abortion Facts and Figures
Abortions occur at a rate of:
1.6 Million every year
130,000 every month
30,000 every week
4,400 every day
180 every hour
4 every minute
1 every 15 seconds

Abortion kills the equivalent of the population of the City of Houston or the State of Nebraska every year. No more than 7% of all abortions involved any potential threat to the mother's life or health. More than 35 million abortions have occurred in the United States since 1973.

No more than 1% involved cases of rape or incest.

43% of all abortions are performed on women who have obtained one, two or more previous abortions. The number of abortions nationwide is more than One Third of the total number of live births; about One Fourth of all pregnancies in the United States end in induced abortions.

Abortion kills the equivalent of the population of the city of Indianapolis every 8 months.
The United States surpasses all other Western Nations in the number of abortions per 1,000 women of child bearing age.
Legal Facts

On June 15, 1983 for the first time Justice Powell wrote of a woman's "fundamental right to terminate her pregnancy." The Supreme Court has created a constitutional right to an abortion.
No consent is required of a spouse for an abortion. No parental consent is required for a minor to have an abortion. Parental consent is required for all surgery - even pierced ears.
In Maryland a pregnant drug user was placed under the court's jurisdiction to protect the health of the fetus. She does have the right to kill the baby through abortion.
A June 1991 survey by the Wirthlin Group found 56% of all Americans favor limiting legal access to abortion to the so-called "hard cases" -rape, incest, or to protect the life of the mother.
60% of persons surveyed by the Wirthlin Group in August 1990 found "extremely convincing" or "very convincing" the statements: "All human life, including that of the unborn, should be protected," and "every unborn child has the basic right to life." On June 14, 1983 a California court indicted a former Sheriff's Deputy of murder. During an unauthorized drug raid the Deputy shot a woman. The woman was wounded, but the fetus died of the gunshot.
What the Supreme Court said about "Trimesters"

Trimesters is not a medical term. It is a word first used by the Supreme Court in 1973.
1. First Trimester
In 1973 the Court said the decision to have an elective abortion is entirely one to be made by a woman and her physician. (The State may place no obstacle).
A 1983 ruling also eliminated the physician.
2. Second Trimester
In 1973 the Court said that the State could regulate abortions only to the extent that such regulations safeguarded maternal health. Therefore it was generally believed that States could require that abortions be done by a licensed physician in a licensed hospital. In 1983 the Court ruled that requiring licensed hospitals is unconstitutional.
3. Third Trimester
In 1973 the Court ruled that the State may proscribe abortions, except in those cases when abortion is necessary to preserve the health of the mother.
In companion Doe vs. Bolts decision the Court ruled that even "distress" is grounds for an abortion (i.e. distress caused by denial of abortion).
According to a 1983 report to the United States Senate Judiciary Committee:
"no significant legal barrier of any kind whatsoever exists today in the United States for a woman to obtain an abortion during any state of her pregnancy."
It is clear that the courts of our day are not going to be a factor in restoring what is right in this country. It will depend on Christians that are willing to spend time in battle on their knees to change the hearts and minds of our leaders.

Annual Abortions
In the past two hundred years, over one million Americans have died for their country. Monuments have been built and speeches have been delivered, honoring these American heroes. America is now engaged in a war where there are no heroes, no monuments or accolades - only victims. Our society has declared war on its most helpless members - our unborn children. Since that war was declared on January 22, 1973, there have been over 35 million deaths.

World War 1 116,708
World War 2 407,316
Korean War 54,246
Vietnam War 58,655
Persian Gulf War 372
Total 1,135,629

America has slaughtered over 31 times the amount of babies as was lost in all the wars combined. And we are to believe, as the liberals would have us to believe that this is "Freedom of Choice." What a dreadful price for that freedom! Can we honestly as a nation think that we do not deserve the Wrath of God for this travesty? If you are a Christian you should be praying fervently for God to open the eyes of our nation and most importantly our leadership to this reality.
