Lesson #4

Question: Where did God come from?

Opening Discussion:

Q - What does eternity mean to you?

It is hard for us to imagine the reality that there is no beginning or end with God. We are created beings with a birth and death and see that everything that has been made on earth has a beginning and end. We cannot understand an infinite concept with a finite mind. That is why we have to believe by faith based on the evidence that eternity is real. Probably the closest thing we can relate to is the heavens, planets, stars, and this earth. When we look at these things we know that they have been around longer than man and we don't know how long they will continue.

What the Bible says:

Psalm 90: 2

2: Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.

Psalm 93: 2

2: Thy throne is established of old: thou art from everlasting.

Isaiah 9: 6

6: For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counseller, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

Genesis 1: 1

1: In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

Q - Genesis 1:1 says "In the Beginning," the beginning of what?

The following diagram may help in the understanding of Eternity:

Eternity always has been, never a beginning, never an end. God stepped out of eternity and created Time. The beginning of Time was in Genesis 1: 1 and the end of Time will be at the end of the Millennial Reign, Revelation 20.

Q - Does this help you to understand where God came from?
