Lesson #7
Question: When will the world end?
Opening Discussion:
Q - What are some things that would indicate to you that the end of the world was near?
Q - What do you think will happen at the end of the world?
You may want to ask if they are familiar with the story of Babel and why it was that God dispersed the people. They were all of the same language and they had the capability of accelerated knowledge. What about the increase of knowledge in the past 50 years? What about the increase of violence? Many things can be used in this discussion time to prepare them for the following scriptures. You may also want to consider making this two lessons or more.
What the Bible Says:
Daniel 12: 4
4: But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.
Matthew 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21 all cover the end time prophecies. You may want to select verses from these three locations as well as others like 2 Thessalonians 2. My suggestion would be to read most of the account in either of the three Gospels to let them see the signs and prophecies regarding the end of times. I would also include the following scriptures and give a brief explanation along with them.
Matthew 24: 36
36: But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
Note: Even though we do not know the exact time of Jesus' return we do know when it is close even right at the door. We know this by the signs and fulfilled prophecies.
Matthew 24: 33
33: So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.
2 Thessalonians 2: 1-12
1: Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,
2: That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.
3: Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
4: Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
5: Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?
6: And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.
7: For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.
8: And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:
9: Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,
10: And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
11: And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
12: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
You may also want to cover such scriptures as 1 Corinthians 15: 51-52, 1 Thessalonians 4: 16-17 to explain what will happen when Jesus does take His church in the Rapture.
Luke 12: 35-40
35: Let your loins be girded about, and your lights burning;
36: And ye yourselves like unto men that wait for their lord, when he will return from the wedding; that when he cometh and knocketh, they may open unto him immediately.
37: Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching: verily I say unto you, that he shall gird himself, and make them to sit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them.
38: And if he shall come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them so, blessed are those servants.
39: And this know, that if the goodman of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched, and not have suffered his house to be broken through.
40: Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not.
You may want to use this scripture to lead you into inquiring about salvation.
